Today was a mighty day.

We finally re-constructed the Millenium Falcon, which had seen some hard use, and was in desperate need of repairs. It was quite a project, and took considerable time & concentration to determine exactly what on it needed to be repaired. Finding the pieces was also a challenge, but we worked together, and found what we needed.

We also learned a neat thing today. NASA has confirmed the existence of the 10th planet. Sun found that to be such a cool piece of information, that he called my mom, in order to make sure she had heard the news. She is another space aficionado, and they talked for a while about the new planet.

After lunch, we finished up the Falcon, and headed over to the community pool with some of the neighbor kids. Joanne joined us after a bit, and the water was lovely.

Sun brought his goggles, and all the kidsl took turns practicing looking into the water. Sun used the goggles to pick things up off of the steps, and then finally, off the bottom of the pool. After he realized that going under water was possible, and fun, he practiced picking things up over and over. Eventually, he called out "Mom! Look at me!!" and i turned to him & he had his legs up & his face in the water & he was swimming like a fish.

I am so happy that he got it! He had such a great time, and gained confidence by the minute. He must have swam for at least a half and hour, before rest time was called, and then when the whistle blew, he went back in for more.

The other kids were pretty inspired, too. They saw how he went from not being a swimmer, to being able to swim in an instant, and now they all think it is possible for them too.

All in all it was a very good day.

After dinner, Sun planted some wildflower seeds. It is late in the season, but it will be an interesting project to see how well they do at this late date.

Tomorrow, we are off to the lake with some other friends, and this time, I hope to get pictures of our dolphin boy!

Today started out with a wonderful adventure to Holden Arboretum.

We went with several friends, and saw the Big Bugs exhibit, which was pretty cool. The bugs were made out of wood and other natural materials, and were hidden among the plants and ponds.

After coming home for lunch, we did some time worksheets, and practiced drawing clock hands and telling time.

In the afternoon, we spent some time swimming, and our hero repeated got his face wet, and he was thrilled to show me that getting water in his eyes is less of a problem than it used to be.

the chronicle begins

I believe that homeschooling is a wonderful way to insure that my son is receiving the best possible education, while avoiding many of the harmful influences that come hand in hand with a public education.

However, I also know that many people have fallen under the spell of the bureaucracy, with its insatiable appetite for paper and proof and documentation.

This blog will serve as a journal for our homeschooling adventure.
